Luka Doncic came out of the Clippers matchup with a leg injury

The Battle of LA lost some of its star power on Saturday night. During the long-awaited showdown against the Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Dončić was forced to leave the game early due to a leg injury. According to a team update shared by insider Brett Seigel, Doncic suffered a left leg contusion and was ruled out for the rest of the competition.

The injury appeared to occur in the first half as the Lakers tried to keep up with their rivals at Cripto.com Arena. While details on the specific game remain somewhat scarce, any lower-body ailment for the Slovenian sensation is enough to send a collective shiver down the spines of the Lakers faithful.

Doncic tried to keep the Lakers going before his exit, he recorded 12 points, four rebounds and 2 assists in the first half. His departure is a devastating blow to a lineup that is already dangerously thin. With Austin Reeves already on the sidelines due to injury, the Lakers’ offense has been stripped of its secondary and tertiary playmakers, leaving LeBron James on the island.

The “struggle” was immediately apparent. Without Doncic’s creation and Reaves’ steady hand, the Clippers’ defense was able to completely load up on James, challenging anyone else to beat them. For the 40-year-old superstar who continues to defy Father Time, “no help” against a deep Clippers team is a recipe for disaster.

Head coach JJ Redick will probably provide more clarity after the game, but the immediate reality is harsh. LeBron James is alone and the Lakers are hurt.
