Deprived of Jaylen Brown, the Celtics surprise the Raptors
Jailen Brown is missing Celticsbut that doesn’t stop them from starting this match as well as possible, especially with a 16-0 run at the end of the first quarter that stunned Raptors (32-20). The latter eventually regrouped though, found their 3-point skill after a lot of watering down, and finished with a strong 23-8 run to take control at the break (51-49).
No one really stood out for the C’s at halftime, while Brandon Ingram and Sandro Mamukelasvili stood out the most for the Canadiens.
Faced with the still very high external success of Torontoand this famous duo of Ingram/Mamukelashvili, could just be the awakening of Peyton Pritchard to change the game. In a difficult time lately, the leader is finding his basketball, and especially the skill to start again Boston in front (83-80).
If Derrick White and Anfernee Simmons contribute in a more scattered fashion, Joe Mazzula’s bench is a real pleasure, with two players, Luca Garza and Hugo Gonzalez, doing a monster job (double-doubles each). Neemias Cueta is not so bad either, then the “Pritchard show” continues and, despite Brandon Ingram and Sandra Mamukelaishvili, the Raptors have to bow to their crowd (112-96).
Gore in the second half, Payton Pritchard came close to a “triple-double”: 33 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds! In contrast, the pair of Ingram/Mamukelashvili has 48 units, but lacked the good Immanuel Quickley (and RJ Barrett…), while the proposed game was very stereotypical, with a series of attempts from behind the arc sometimes a symbol of impotence in the attack.
WHAT TO REMEMBER
– Boston climbs to the podium. Winners of twelve of their last sixteen games, the Celtics are in full swing and their success allows them to overtake the Raptors in the standings, behind the Pistons and Knicks in the Top 3 in the East. In addition to the hot shooting of Peyton Pritchard, we will remember the contribution of the “role players” that are Neemias Cueta, Luca Garza and Hugo Gonzalez, who helped the C’s make a difference under the boards (55 rebounds to 37) and in the paint (54 points to 32). Macula Boys are generally in control in this part – apart from the second quarter deficit.
– Peyton Pritchard made Jaylen Brown forget. Without Jaylen Brown (and Jayson Tatum, of course), Peyton Pritchard knew he was expected on the Celtics side, and that’s why he didn’t disappoint. Angry about the three-game shooting spree, he still sang to his defenders, and those powerless suffered especially in the third quarter, where he scored 19 of his 33 points. With his very low center of gravity, Boston’s pocket leader is a pain on defense and, in scoring and passing, he cut through Toronto’s defense with complete ease. Undoubtedly the best match of his season, behind his 42 points in Cleveland.
