Nick Bonito reacts to Trevor Lawrence’s big day

The Denver Broncos faltered badly in the race for AFC home field advantage in the NFL playoffs. They lost brutally to the Jacksonville Jaguars 34-20 with Travon Walker leading the defensive end. Meanwhile, Broncos star linebacker Nick Bonito acknowledged the shortcomings of the face-off Trevor Lawrence.

He blamed himself for ending “T-Lov’s” dominant day at Empower Field.

Lawrence was 23 of 36 for 279 yards and three touchdowns. He delivered those numbers despite taking five sacks.

Bonita, however, was asked via Chris Thomason of the Denver Gazette if Lawrence still has too much time to throw.

“Yes, it is,” shared Bonito. “It’s really up to me. No one else but me.”

In other words, the Broncos’ top pass rusher is blaming himself for the loss.

Was Nick Bonito a non-factor during the Broncos vs. Jaguars game?

The 26-year-old entered the game with 12.5 sacks. He watched John Franklin-Myers lead the rush with two sacks of Lawrence.

Again, Bonitto gave himself some harsh criticism – even saying “I played today”.

The former Oklahoma Sooner now has this alarming stat to himself: zero sacks against the three ambitious playoff teams Denver has faced. That now includes the opponent on Sunday.

He admitted his mistakes, while adding that Denver has not been playing up to his standards lately.

“We haven’t played our kind of ball since last week, I feel. We have to be better,” Bonito said after the game. “I don’t think I played up to my standard. I can play a lot better.”

Denver controls its own destiny in its pursuit of the AFC’s top seed. But now the Jaguars are breathing down their necks. Even Liam Cohen trolled the Broncos with its “small market victory” claim later.
