Jacobi Brissett gets some graphics on the new center’s ‘butt’

The shot is an underrated part of football. It seems easy in theory: the center either hands the ball off to the quarterback or throws it between his legs to start the play. However, there are many more nuances in filming. Quarterbacks often have a specific way they want the ball handed to them to make it easier for them to handle. Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacobi Brissett explained this in a rather interesting way.

The Cardinals have a new center sending the ball to Brissett. Of course, one of the questions was how the quarterback was adjusting to the new player on the offensive line. Brissett’s answer was direct, but also funny, as a quarterback more detail on how to shoot the ball under center.

“She’s trying to feel his butt, that’s really all,” Brissett said. “I try to make sure I have the right amount of pressure on the snaps. Tell him, hey, I’m here. We do this in practice, so I got snaps with him before the game. But obviously, in the middle of the game, it’s a little different. But I just tell him, hey, this is where I’m going to be on hand, and it’s going to be pretty on hand.

Shooting below center is harder than it sounds. Since the center is focused on the defensive line, he must pass the ball to the fullback without looking down. Because of this, quarterbacks usually put their hand somewhere on the center’s butt to tell the center where to put the ball, as the Cardinals KB mentioned. That being said, different quarterbacks have different positions under the center arm, which takes some getting used to.

Brissett made good use of the void filled by the injured Kyler Murray. Although the wins didn’t come for the Cardinals, Brissett did well as the game manager for this young team.
