Nick Sirianni gives the definitive answer to Jake Elliott’s future

The The Philadelphia Eagles became the first team in more than 20 years to win the NFC East in back-to-back seasons on Saturday. They defeated their division rival, the Washington Commanders, 29-18. With the win, the Eagles improved to 10-5 and are currently in third place in the conference.

Philly’s offense finally seems to have turned a corner in recent weeks. But that does not mean that everything is as it should be in the City of Brotherly Love. Special teams of the Eagles, i placekicking in particular, they were pretty rotten.

Veteran kicker Jake Elliott missed his seventh field goal of the season against the Commanders on Saturday. He is now just 17-for-24 on the season, leading to the question of whether the Eagles need a trade.

On Monday, the head coach of Philadelphia Nick Sirianni put those questions to bed, stating that he not thinking about the change in the kicker. Elliott will remain the team’s starter in the postseason, according to Ari Meirov.

Elliott has really struggled with range in recent years. Over the past two seasons, he has missed 10 field goals of at least 50 yards. That puts Syriani and the offense in trouble when facing fourth down in field goal range for most teams. Place kickers have become increasingly effective at scoring from 50+ yards, with many consistently hitting from 60 plus.

The Eagles’ veteran kicker missed both of his field goal attempts Saturday. He missed a 43-yarder in the second quarter and then a 52-yarder to close out the first half. On the year, Elliott is just 10 of 17 with more than 40 yards. This is a departure from previous years. He spent all nine years of his career in Philadelphia, shooting at least 84 percent of his field goals six times.
