Victor Wembanyama hopes San Antonio-Thunder will become a real ‘rivalry’
After a 130-110 win against All-Star Shai Giljus-Alexander Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs‘ Victor Wembanyama set the record straight on the rivalry with the defending champions. Vembanjama and Spurs gave Thunder the worst defeat of the season. In a game where Oklahoma City faced its first 20+ point deficit, San Antonio made a statement.
However, Wembanjama is not ready to name rivals Thunder for Spurs, but hope that one dayhe said during his postgame media availability.
“It seems like it would be weird to say it’s a rivalry because it’s not something that seems natural,” Wembanyama said. “I didn’t say it’s impossible that it can’t be in the future. I hope it’s soon, but we’re definitely getting closer.”

Vembanyama finished with 12 points, five rebounds and three assists off the bench, while Keldon Johnson led the Spurs with 25 points, including five three-pointers. Stefon Castle (24 points), Harrison Barnes (20 points) and Devin Vassell (17 points) combined for 61 points on 19-of-31 shooting, including 9-for-20 from deep.
The Spurs’ two wins against the defending champions equal half of the Thunder’s losses this season, a rarity for a team with 26 wins in 30 games.
Victor Vembanyama dropping the mic on Chet Holmgren’s rivalry

Spurs All-Star Victor Wembanyama hopes the rivalry with the Thunder can develop in 2025-26 without a head-to-head matchup with Chet Holmgren. After winning on Tuesday, Vembanjama set the record straight on Holmgren’s comparisons which follows two 7-footers since Wemby first entered the league in 2023.
Vembanjama addressed the Holmgren rivalry, which has followed the All-Star center since Chet missed his rookie campaign with an injury, making his Thunder debut the same season Wemby made it with the Spurs. However, Vembanyama does not understand why he was constantly compared two Holmgrens.
“No, I’m not thinking about it,” Vembanyama said. “At least from a basketball point of view, there is no comparison (between us)”
Vembanjama and Spurs will have the chance to beat the Thunder for the third time in December on Christmas Day.
