A potential Minnesota career-ender for Ryan Kelly

The Minnesota Vikings have decided to put center Ryan Kelly back on injured reserve.
The team announced the move on Wednesdayas the veteran offensive lineman suffered another concussion during Minnesota’s 16-13 win over the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.

“The Vikings placed veteran center Ryan Kelly on injured reserve for the second time in 2025 on Wednesday, one day before they host the Lions in Week 17,” shared Craig Peters of Minnesota’s official website.

This is the third time in the 2025 NFL season that the four-time Pro Bowler has suffered a concussion. The first one happened during the Vikings’ Week 2 game against the Atlanta Falcons at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, causing him to miss the game. He returned to action in Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dublin, but also got a concussion in that competition. As a result, Kelly landed on injured reserve.

With six concussions so far in his NFL career, there is a possibility that Kelly he may have already played his last game in the league, as ESPN’s Kevin Seifert mentioned. Either way, he won’t see action until at least the end of the 2025 campaign, as the Vikings have already been eliminated from the playoffs.

The Vikings are on a three-game winning streak, but even if they go undefeated in their last two games — against the Detroit Lions in Week 17 and the Green Bay Packers in Week 18 — they’ll still be heading into an early break.

After playing his first nine NFL seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, Kelly signed a two-year, $18 million contract with the Vikings in March.
