Mikal Bridges still hasn’t missed a game in his career!
Mikal Bridges is about to experience a Merry Christmas in 2025. At the Christmas Games meeting with the Knicks for the reception in Cleveland, background of New York will move into 11th place on the list of players with the most consecutive games played in NBA history with 586 games on the horizon.
Simply, as he did in Villanova with 112 games played, Mikal Bridges has yet to miss a game in his NBA career. He even played another, with 83 matches played during the 2022/23 season after his move from Phoenix to Brooklyn!
Not surprisingly, his coach and teammates praised his work ethic and discipline in recovery and conditioning to explain…the inexplicable.
“He takes care of his body and he does it very well”, points out son coach, Mike Brown. “I don’t know what his sleep cycles are, but I know he works very hard in terms of preparation. And when you’re very attached to elements like this, generally good things follow. He probably has good genes too, so thanks mom.”
Maniac on the edge?
Michael Bridges wants to cultivate this specificity, which would make him a bit monomaniacal, to take care of the smallest details in order to be in the best conditions to continue his crazy streak.
Jalen Brunson is in a good position to talk about that, he was his teammate from 2015 to 2018 in Villanova before meeting him in New York.
“He’s a psychopath when it comes to his preparation. He’s very focused on everything he needs to do to make sure he’s ready. And he always has been.”he said. “Let’s just say he’s a bit of a psycho, but nothing serious, he just tries to take care of it every day and stick with it.”
A well-oiled routine
Michal Bridges’ routine must be worth checking out, but he doesn’t claim to have a secret trick, just a reminder of the importance of repetition and regularity in recovery.
“I use cold baths the best, I always get a massage before the match and then there’s the stretching routine and everything”he mentioned. “ I think it’s mostly a question of the regularity of all this. The season is long, we go through a lot of emotions and people tend to forget to do all these things. I just try to be consistent every time, to keep doing all the things that make me ready for the match.”
If he’s still light years behind AC Green’s record of 1,192 consecutive games, Michal Bridges could soon join the top 10 Ironmen in NBA history.
After James Donaldson’s 586 games (1991), he could quickly reach the 609 game mark held by Jack Twyman and John Stockton. Then would come the eighth spot, which he could steal from Andre Miller and his 632 consecutive games, until the end of the regular season.
