Texas’ Trent Brown was shutout against the Chargers, another question mark for CJ Stroud

The Houston Texas (10-5) have turned into a legitimate AFC contender after winning seven straight games, but all their momentum they could come to a screeching halt if their offensive line returns to its previous rotten form. Third-year quarterback CJ Stroud will have to have his wits about him when he facing the Los Angeles Chargers (11-4) on Saturday, as both of his matches could be inactives.

Super Bowl champion Trent Brown it’s already turned off for the road game with knee and ankle injuries, and Aireontae Erseri is questionable with a thumb injury, according to ESPN’s DJ Bien-Aime. With the veteran right tackle missing practice all week, his absence was expected. The rookie left tackle was at least a limited participant in Thursday’s session, which will give him a chance to play in LA.

Stroud’s early struggles coincided with the performance of his O-Line through the first six weeks of the season. When the protection unit improved, it is no coincidence that the former Rookie of the Year also rose. This is just football 101. He has rushed for 260 yards three times since Oct. 26 (missing nearly four games during that span). What’s more, Stroud hasn’t thrown an interception in three December starts.

They will try to continue that streak against the Chargers, but there will be a challenge at SoFi Stadium. Brown boasts a decade of experience in the trenches, having earned Pro Bowl honors with the New England Patriots in 2019, and Ersery has logged more than 1,000 snaps this year. Even if the latter fits, the Texans will have to prepare for a tough matchup with the Chargers.

Houston can clinch a playoff spot and also stay in the hunt for the AFC South crown if they win out, so with the stakes so high, expect CJ Stroud and company to dig deep this weekend.
