Victor Wembanyama is keeping his cards close to the vest after beating the Thunder

What was the secret for San Antonio Spurs dominance of the Oklahoma City Thunder? Victor Vembanyama don’t speak.
“We learned a lot on the tactical side, but I don’t want to talk too much about it. I want to keep something for us, but we definitely gained some intelligence after playing them so much.”
117-102 win on Christmas Day in matchup a three OKC games in the last week and a half.
“Definitely learned a lot. I mean, this is like a playoff series. We’ve played them three times, I don’t know if it’s been maybe ten days,” Wemby added.
When the Spurs dumped the defending champions on Dec. 13, it proved seismic as the Thunder lost just one of their first 25 games, the best start in NBA history. But it also turned out to be significant because of the stage. The semi-finals of the NBA Cup took place in Las Vegas. The basketball world has watched with great interest as the third year of the new tournament in the season appears to be starting to take off.
When San Antonio swept Oklahoma City ten days later, it was a complete eye-opener for those raised eyebrows. Sure, it was at the Frost Bank Center, but this was supposed to be when a dynasty in the making would establish order against a team that some think could challenge them in the next decade. The Spurs won by 20.
When the Silver and Black saw the juggernaut again just two days later, the Thunder would surely put their foot down. Christmas Day at the Paicom Centre, where they haven’t lost any of their first 14 games, should have sent a message that champions are still champions. They did not go quietly.
OKC is 26-2 against the rest of the NBA. Those losses amounted to two and five points. They are 0-3 against SA, with a 37-point margin.

The Spurs point guard makes a key play against the Thunder
While Vembanyama isn’t revealing any details specific to the game plan(s) for the Thunder, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to notice Spurs’ guards present problems in the match.
Including 19 points, seven rebounds and four assists on Christmas Day, reigning Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle was effective offensively and defensively in all three wins against the team with the best record in the NBA.
De’Aaron Fox scored a career-high 29 points in the last win.
“He’s good at getting us going,” Wemby said of his 2023 All-Star teammate.
“We had trouble getting going early in the game, but at least he carried us a little bit on the other end. He’s just a guy that can make things happen, so it’s really helpful when we’re stuck in situations,” the 2023 first-round pick continued.
Then there’s rookie Dylan Harper. In just 20 minutes, the No. 2 overall draft selection last summer added 12 points.
“Teams have to put him on the scouting report already because otherwise he’s just going to hurt them. And his poise, his ability to control the game has been so incredible, it’s valuable to have him on the floor.”
With Harper, Fox, Castle and Vembanyama it may not remain any secret why the Spurs dealt the Thunder.
