Jordan Ott has an interesting reason for the Mark Williams-Jose Alvarado fight
In an unlikely twist, both Mark Williams and Jose Alvarado were ejected from the second half of the consecutive set in between Phoenix Suns and the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday.
It came in the third quarter, when Alvarado shoved Williams, and then the two got into an argument. Suns head coach Jordan Ott immediately jumped into action, trying to play peacemaker and let cooler heads prevail.
However, he didn’t see how things escalated, but he knew it was there the main reason for an argument.
“I didn’t see it. I mean, I saw it start and then all of a sudden everybody jumped on it, so I didn’t go back to look at it. Obviously, that’s what happens,” Ott said after the game, via Arizona’s Family .
“Feel like sleep deprivation. Second night in a row, something always happens… they got tangled up and both got kicked out.”
Jordan Ott knew the Suns would step up without Mark Williams
The loss of a dominant force inside left opportunities for Oso Ighodaro and Nick Richards. Both had a nice impact and constantly dominated the glass.
But Saturday’s game felt like a surprise, given that Williams would not play in the Suns’ back-to-back games. Regardless, his presence was felt off the bench for his team.
He had 10 points and eight rebounds in just 11 minutes of action. He was closing in on his second straight double-double. Suns win though highlighted team culture, and the fight could be a point of growth.
Playing without the best player on the team is a struggle, given the Pelicans’ athletes. Guys like Zion Williamson and Trey Murphy III have proven they can do a lot of damage.
It will be interesting to see if the league gives Williams a suspension for his part in the fight. If not, he will join the team for the contest against the Washington Wizards on Monday.
