Paul Pearce can’t believe Victor Wembanyama is ‘accepting’ coming off the bench

The The San Antonio Spurs are on the move most recently, beating the Oklahoma City Thunder three times in a two-week span before coming back down to Earth with a recent home loss to the Utah Jazz. Victor Vembanyama is still there on a minutes limit after returning from injury, coming off the Spurs bench as he works his way back into form.
One person who can’t believe Wembanyama is fine coming off the bench is the former Boston Celtics wing Paul Piercewho assessed the situation during the appearance on the No Offense podcast.
“The man is the sixth man right now. How do you come off the bench? How do you take it?” asked Pierce, according to NBACentral on X, formerly Twitter. “Why do you accept coming off the bench right now? I don’t even accept that.”
“I’ve never seen a superstar of his size accept to come off the bench for multiple games,” he added.
While some players in Vembanyama’s position might struggle to come off the bench for consecutive games, it speaks to the former No.1 overall pick’s unselfishness that he is still fine with the role, despite returning from injury for more than two weeks.
Meanwhile, the Spurs as a whole are rolling, currently 23-8 heading into Monday night’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Spurs are second in the Western Conference, 3.5 games behind the first-place Thunder and a game ahead of the third-place Denver Nuggets.
As Vembanjama’s minutes continue to increase in the coming weeks, the Spurs’ winning percentage should continue to increase.
Either way, the Spurs and Cavaliers are scheduled to tip off on Monday at 8:00 PM ET from San Antonio.
