The Warriors have talked to the Nets about trading Nick Claxton

The The Golden State Warriors have been up and down so far in the 2025-26 NBA season, currently sits at 17-16 after the recent victory over the Brooklyn Nets. Stephen Curry has continued to put up monster stat lines on a seemingly nightly basis, but so far it hasn’t translated into a very impressive record for the Warriors.

One area where the Warriors have suffered this year has been in the frontcourt, as their offseason signing of big man Al Horford has turned out to be a major letdown thus far.

Coincidentally, the Warriors faced the player on Monday in Brooklyn to whom they continue be associated with in trade discussions.

“(Nic) Claxton is clearly the type of center the Warriors need because he can provide immediate production defensively and rebounding. Golden State has genuine interest in Claxton, and there have been talks between the two teams since the start of the season, sources said,” ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel reported.

Siegel also noted that Clacton is “…one of the top names on Golden State’s list of center targets before the trade deadline.”

Overall, Clacton would provide rebounding and rim protection that the Warriors currently lack on their roster, with Quentin Post and Horford looking to stay closer to the perimeter despite their height.

While he wouldn’t provide a ton of spacing, Claxton is also a talented passer as a big man who would seemingly work well in Steve Kerr’s ball-and-man movement-centric system, and it might not take much for the Warriors to get him out of Brooklyn.

Either way, the Warriors are scheduled to take the floor next Wednesday afternoon in a New Year’s Eve matinee against the Charlotte Hornets at 1:00 PM ET.
