Adou Thiero serenades LeBron James with “Happy Birthday.”

In the midst of an unprecedented 23rd season in the NBA, LeBron James celebrated his 41st birthdaymaking him the oldest player in the league. A good birthday present for James would be a win Los Angeles Lakers in a matchup with the Eastern Conference-leading Detroit Pistons, but in the meantime, James was serenaded by Lakers rookie Adou Thiero after practice on Tuesday.
As is common with most beginners, the ‘Happy Birthday’ duties often fall to them, and Adou Thiero did my best how to make lebron james feel special on his big day. The Lakers also presented James with a tiered cake that featured purple and gold decorations along with James’ logo on the front.
Although there have been NBA players who have played in the league after age 41, none have played as many seasons as James. Vince Carter played until he was 43, but played 22 seasons. Chris Paul, Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Garnett, Robert Parish and Kevin Willis played 21 seasons.
And for James, he’s still performing at an All-Star caliber level. James missed the first 14 games of the season with a nerve injury and has missed two more games since returning. That gives him one more game to miss before he is eligible for postseason awards and league honors. NBA players must play at least 65 games to qualify for awards and All-NBA teams.
But James still averaged 20.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 1.0 steals while shooting 50.7 percent from the field. He was named to the All-Star team 21 consecutive times, the only year he was not selected as a rookie in 2003-04.
During the Lakers’ last game against the Sacramento Kings, a 125-101 victory, James turned back the clock with two dunks from lob passesone from Marcus Smart and one from Deandre Ayton. He finished with 24 points while making just two shots (11 of 13). As the Lakers continue to try to keep up in the tough Western Conference, James remains an integral part of the team’s hopes.
