Damian Lillard praises patience
Recently invited to The Road Trippin’ Show on Prime Video, Damian Lillard talked about the progress of his rehabilitation after his Achilles tendon rupture. The leader of the Blazers does not try to rush things and assures that he will take the time he needs. At the age of 35, there is no question of skipping a step.
“It’s going very well,” explains about his rehabilitation. “It’s the kind of injury you have to take your time with. It takes as long as it takes. The first weeks, even the first two or three months, are pretty frustrating because you’re very limited. But with patience, kindness to yourself and doing what it takes to keep moving forward, you start to see the light at the end of the tunnel.”
Present at the Blazers warm-up
Unlike Jayson Tatum who could return after the All-Star Game, Damian Lillard decided to use the offseason to get back to 100%. A long-term bet.
“I feel very good about this decision — even better today than when I made it”he continues. “Progress in rehabilitation and seeing everything gradually coming back is encouraging. The main concern is always, ‘How am I going to move after this?’ So, getting all your sensations back, managing unpredictable movements, some contact, picking up the pace, being in the air, falling without thinking too much about it… Things like that. »
In fact, he believes he has reached a crucial turning point, one where the body begins to react naturally again, without ulterior motives. This week we saw him in the Blazers’ warm-up before the game against the Mavericks.
“Now that I’m here, I feel even more comfortable that I gave myself as much time as possible,” he concludes. “And when I look at our team and the progress we’ve made, I know that if I come back properly, we’ll have the right ticket to play next season.”
