Jake LaRavia has the Lakers in his skin
“Who is this number 12?” Everyone knows now that Anthony Edwards asked himself a question at the beginning of the season Jake LaRavia. We’ve known him better than anyone in Memphis since he started his career there, and last night as a winger avenged his former team scoring 21 points and 9 rebounds. In money time, his three-pointer at the end of the possession hurt very, very badly.
“He’s more and more involved in what we call the offensive effort: cutting, grabbing the offensive rebound, running. He was rewarded for that tonight.” analyzed by JJ Reddick. “He made a big three in the fourth quarter. Smart made one, Jared and Wando as well. When those guys punish the defense for double-takes, that’s huge for us.”
Holder, Jake LaRavia attacked the match with their feet on the ground in their own special style, both focused on the dirty work, but also on sharing the ball. He is a facilitator, who sees the game very well and shows opportunism in attack.
Proud to have the word “Lakers” on my chest
“He does a little bit of everything” sums up LeBron James. “His rebounding, especially offensively, gives us extra possessions. He’s more athletic than he looks, and that helps us a lot. We’re a team where rebounding has to be collective, we don’t have one player who grabs all the rebounds every night. He brings that to us, even from the back.”
What also characterizes Jake LaRavi is his smile and his freshness. Born in Pasadena, he dreams of the Lakers, and he arrives at the press conference with his franchise jacket.
“There’s a real pride in being part of this team. I’ve done a lot of press conferences over the years, and usually, after the match, the players don’t wear the team colors anymore.” he points out. “I said it as soon as I got there: it means something to have the ‘Lakers’ on your chest. I grew up a fan, and so did my father. I understand the impact of playing for this team and what it means to the fans who come to see us and support us every night. So I wear the Lakers with pride on my chest every night.”
