Portland sends Spurs home with Danny Avdia’s dagger
Danny Avdia passed with the clutch during the Portland Trail Blazers match against San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night.
Avdija is going through his sixth season in the NBA, his second with the Blazers. He blossomed into one of the league’s top stars, standing out as Portland’s leading scorer while having the team in the conversation for a potential playoff berth.
Avdia was supposed to make a big play during Portland’s game against San Antonio. Being on the road, they needed a strong win against one of the best teams in the league and Avdija came through. One of his big shots came in the last minute of the game, pulling for a hard triple over a San Antonio defender to give Portland a 114-110 lead.

Danny Avdia and the Blazers stunned the Spurs with a big play down the stretch, escaping with a 115-110 victory on the road.
Portland got off to a great start, taking a 35-24 lead after the first quarter. Despite San Antonio’s comeback efforts, the Blazers made enough plays in the fourth quarter to stop the comeback and secure the win.
Four players scored in double figures for Portland in the win, including Avdia. He led the way with a triple-double performance of 29 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists and a block. He shot 9-of-23 from the field, including 3-of-6 from beyond the arc and 8-of-11 from the free throw line. Donovan Klingan was next with 24 points and 12 rebounds, Tumani Kamara had 20 points and eight rebounds, while Caleb Love had 16 points and five rebounds.
Portland improved to 16-20 on the season, holding onto ninth place in the Western Conference standings. They are tied with the Memphis Grizzlies while trailing the Golden State Warriors by 2.5 games and the Phoenix Suns by five games.
The Trail Blazers will be looking forward to their next match, as it will be at home. They host the Utah Jazz on January 5th at 10:00 PM ET.
