Alex Sarr fires back at Anthony Edwards with a taunting gesture

The The Washington Wizards are playing better basketball lately; on the road Sunday night against the Minnesota Timberwolves, they have won four of their last five games, including a huge win over a team with a winning record in the Toronto Raptors. While the Timberwolves humiliated them in a 141-115 loss this weekend, the Wizards are at least coming up with something or getting their groove back — with Alec Sarr refusing to back down from any challenge.

The Wizards found it difficult to contain Anthony Edwardswho scored 35 points to lead the Timberwolves. Edwards was return to playing with your usual joywhich was seen by the energy with which he carried himself on the field. He talked nonsense and mocked his opponents; on one such play, he looped over Sarr and proceeded to taunt him with a pointing gesture, as if confused as to why the Wizards’ center contested the shot in the first place.

Sar, however, did not take it lying down. In transition shortly after Edwards’ taunt, the Wizards’ center went for a Statue of Liberty layup that the Timberwolves guard decided not to jump — leading to a return gesture from Sarr.

The Wizards’ young core needs time to marinate

The Wizards are still a good few years away from contention, as they don’t appear to have a major ball-handling star that could lead to a rapid rise similar to what the Detroit Pistons have gone through over the past year.

But that doesn’t mean Washington doesn’t have quality pieces on the roster to build around. Sarr is the floor-spacing rim protector every team would want, while Kishawn George, Tre Johnson, Bilal Coulibaly and Bub Carrington also show promise. Patience is simply required for Wizards fans as they wait for their team to return to winning ways.
