NBA preview: Portland Trail Blazers, Miami Heat, Detroit Pistons and Washington Wizards post dramatic wins
Scott Henderson of the Portland Trail Blazers scored the game-winning basket with 0.1 seconds left in one of the last four NBA games on Thursday.
Henderson’s stepback jumper gave the Trail Blazers two points and sealed a 122-120 victory against the Utah Jazz.
In Miami, Tyler Hero sank a 15-footer with 0.5 seconds left to make it 89-88 for Miami Heat against state rivals Orlando Magic.
There might have been time for Orlando to make one last shot, but Jalen Suggs’ long three-point attempt fell short and was ruled to have come after the buzzer.
The most incredible victory came for Detroit Pistons as Jaden Ivey hit a 3-pointer while fouled with 3.1 seconds on the clock and sank the ensuing free throw to cap a 114-113 victory against Sacramento Kings.
The Pistons trailed by 10 points in the final three minutes.
And in Washington, Jordan Poole’s three-pointer with 8.7 seconds left helped Washington Wizards beat the Charlotte Hornets.
Poole’s basket gave the Wizards a 112-110 lead before Charlotte’s Brandon Miller missed a layup with six seconds left and Washington’s Justin Champagne hit one of two free throws as the Wizards cruised to a 113-110 win.
Washington trailed by 21 points in the first half and remained at the bottom of the Eastern Conference despite its fifth win of the season.
