The Raptors have been linked to a Trey Murphy III trade, but there’s a catch
As rumors are swirling around the Toronto Raptors As for the moves the team will make before the February trade deadline, there’s no doubt there’s interest in adding to the success they’ve had early in the season. After that The Raptors defeated the Charlotte Hornets, it’s easy to see the heights the team could reach, adding another key piece to the roster as this NBA insider talks about.
On the ClutchPoints show called “Clutch Scoops” with Brett Siegel and Tomer Azarly, the former would talk about Toronto and say that the player he heard he was connected to the team is the star of the New Orleans Pelicans Trey Murphy III.
“It’s going to be interesting to see what the Raptors do, because it looks like Bobby Webster sees an opportunity to keep Toronto in the top four in the East right now and continue to develop his core at the same time. So maybe, there’s something to that. Another name I’ve heard recently about Toronto is Trey Murphy,” Siegel said.
“I doubt they would pay the price the Pelicans are putting on him right now, but it shows you that Toronto is operating as a serious buyer right now before the trade deadline, and they’re looking at what avenues there are to improve their roster,” Siegel continued.

The Raptors could have a hard time landing Trey Murphy

However, as Siegel notes, the return expected for Murphy from New Orleans is high, and an NBA insider previously reported that it probably won’t be moved before the deadline.
“They’ve heard these offers, they’ve heard what teams want in terms of Trey Murphy, Herb Jones, but there’s no movement on that front. The expectation around the league is that no players will be moved before the trade deadline,” Siegel said on Dec. 30.
It remains to be seen if Murphy ends up being traded and if Toronto makes a splash before the deadline, with one star linked with Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis. The Raptors are currently 23-15, which puts them in fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
