Clippers come alive against uninspired Nets
Two days after their defeat face auk KnicksTHE Clippers remained in New York to challenge Networks and they hope to climb back up the standings in the Western Conference. John Collins opens the scoring with a winning basket and follows it up Kawhi Leonard (26 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists) who shoots long against a former teammate Terrance Mann. On the Nets side, the beginning of the match is complicated. We had to wait over four minutes to see Brooklyn get their first shot of the night thanks to a long basket fromEgor Demin (16-5).
At the end of the first twelve minutes of the game, the Clippers could count on 65% shooting success to take a 35-25 lead. The Californians keep their foot off the gas pedal as the second act begins with a long-range arrow from Nicholas Batum (5 points, 2 rebounds) and Tyronn Lue’s men then develop. Kawhi Leonard intercepts a pass Nolan Traore (5 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists) and is responsible for finishing the counter attack while Brooke Lopez scores 2+1 and achieves a score of 10-0 and gives the guests a twenty-point advantage (45-25).
Behind a James Harden (31 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists) scored 22 points during the first period, the Clippers led 63-47 entering the locker room. However, after the break, the Californians’ attack suffered a slight interruption.
They suffered four turnovers in a span of minutes, allowing Brooklyn to erase some of the delay and get back to within nine (67-58). However, Kawhi Leonard takes the responsibility to give the Clippers some breathing room with a 3-point shot, and Los Angeles creates a new fifteen-point deficit before the start of the final act (91-76).
In this fourth quarter, the Nets failed to regain hope despite Nolan Traore’s long shot and logically ended up losing 105-121.
WHAT TO REMEMBER
– The Nets lack skill. Brooklyn broke its teeth on the Clippers’ defense. The opening minutes indicated that it was going to be a complicated evening for Jordi Fernandez’s men as it took more than four minutes for the Nets to score their first basket of the game. Even during this “run” in the third quarter, Brooklyn could not count on its skill, preferring to grab numerous offensive rebounds to get second chances, an area in which they dominated the Clippers (6 offensive rebounds for Los Angeles vs. 19 for Brooklyn). This clumsiness is embodied by a Michael Porter Jr who never knew how to set his sights and finished the game with 18 points on 7/20 shooting.
– Jordan Miller, a spark off the bench. In contrast, the Clippers had no problem scoring baskets on the Nets’ defense, and one player in particular enjoyed it, namely Jordan Miller. Through three games, he saw his playing time extended and used the 27 minutes Tyronn Lue gave him to finish with 21 points on 9/13 and 2/3 shooting from distance. The guard came within one point of his career high of 22 points against the Nuggets last December.
– The Clippers are getting closer to the “play-ins”. With this success, Los Angeles has its eighth win in ten games and sees the door to the playoffs open a little more. The Clippers (14-23) are just a game and a half behind the Grizzlies (16-22) and could take another step toward the Top 10 in the West with a win against the Pistons this Saturday.
