Hawks remain interested in various Mavericks trades after AD injury

The Atlanta Hawks seemed to be active on the trade market this season, especially after signing a deal with send Treo Young to the Washington Wizards. Outside of that trade, the Hawks have been linked to Anthony Davis in the last few weeks, as they wish make an upgrade to their front field.

With Davis’ latest injury, it looks like the Hawks will have to look elsewhere if they’re really interested, and they seem to have their eye on another Mavericks big man, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.

“Something to add to that discussion: The Hawks, league sources say, have insisted they were never willing to add former No. 1 overall pick Zachary Rizacher to the deals that highlight Kristaps Porzidis and Luke Kennard in an offer for Davis, but I’ve heard that an executive or two rivals have a potential option for teams to have a potential option Daniel Gafford a trade that takes Rizaher completely out of the bargain if they want. “Atlanta is said to have some interest in the Dallas big man in addition to Indiana and Boston (who have been heavily exploring the trade market for Anfernee Simmons),” Stein wrote.

It was widely reported that the Mavericks wanted Rizacher in a deal if they were to move on from Davis, but were unwilling to trade the former first overall pick.

Going for Gafford shouldn’t cost the Hawks that much, and they’ll get a huge contribution at the center position. It will likely take the expiring contracts of some players on the team to get the deal done, but the Hawks appear to be open to moving them to improve their roster.

Even with the trade of their franchise player in Young, the Hawks still want to stay competitive as the season continues.
