Keyonte George pulls off a rare Utah feat last accomplished by Donovan Mitchell

Keionte George may be in the midst of a breakthrough campaign in his third season in the league with Utah Jazzbut he still suffered a few ups and downs which is normal for a point guard who recently turned 22 years old. He played one of his worst games of the season on Saturday The Jazz’s 150-95 loss to the Charlotte Hornetsbut he refused to stay down for long as he dropped 32 points in Utah’s 123-112 comeback win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

In fact, George is approaching a scoring level for the Jazz that is eerily reminiscent of the former cornerstone of Utah’s franchise Donovan Mitchellwho ironically is now with the Cavs. As noted by StatMuse, George is the first The Jazz guard recorded more double-digit games with 30 points or more in a season than Mitchell in his final season with the team. This is no mean feat, as the season is not even half over yet.

George has become one of the toughest scorers in the league to stop when he gets going, and he’s expanded his game enough (he also had nine assists in the win over the Cavs) that opposing defenders are sometimes left scratching their heads trying to figure out how to slow him down.

The Jazz have been looking for pieces for Lauri Markkanen for the past few years, and George has been the best player the team has developed since they decided to rebuild in 2022 with Mitchell and Rudy Gobert.

Utah was putting together a strong enough young core, and with George is emerging as a fringe talent at the All-Star levelthe jazz front office can at least focus their resources on finding their superstar winger who could elevate this team from scrappy to consistently good.
