Why Draymond Green is no longer a ‘hell no’ in coaching

On Tuesday evening, Golden State Warriors got back into the win column with a comfortable home victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. It was a solid game from Draymond Greenwho scored 10 points with seven rebounds and played his typically excellent defense throughout the game in a 119-97 home victory.

After the game, Green became 100% honest about whether his opinion, once strongly negative, was potentially becoming a coach one day he changed.

“As I’m getting closer to the end, I’m thinking about it a little bit more. I’m definitely closer than I was a few years ago. If you’d asked me two years ago, I’d have said, hell no… It’s not an absolute no for me anymore,” Green said, per 95.7 The Game on X, formerly Twitter.

Green has long been praised for his basketball IQ, able to see plays before they happen and read opposing defenses and offenses, turning into an elite two-way player throughout his career.

His famously short fuse may not be a great attribute for a head coach in the modern NBA, so it would be interesting to see how he adapts to the role if he ever does.

Meanwhile, the Warriors as a whole are looking for some sort of consistency in 2025-26, currently 22-19 after their win over the Blazers.

While Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler have continued to produce at a high level for most of this season, many fans are looking for Mike Dunleavy Jr. and company to turn the trade around and bring in a player who can help the Warriors tie the game in the Western Conference.

Golden State will next take the floor Thursday night at home against the New York Knicks.
