Erik Spoelstra’s “encouraged” views on the duo of Tyler Hero and Norman Powell

MIAMI – S The Miami Heat defeated the Phoenix Suns on tuesday night, there were plenty of contributions from the team, but the aspect that shined through was the effectiveness of the relationship between Tyler Herro and Norman Powell. As it is The Heat have gone through an inconsistent season so far, the prospect of a backcourt duo could add a dangerous dynamic for opposing teams.

In Tuesday’s win over Phoenix, Powell finished with 27 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the field, four-of-10 from deep, with five rebounds and three assists. As for Hero, he would contribute 23 points on 8-for-18 shooting from the field, as the rising duo for Miami, head coach Erik Spoelstra pray they need more time, since the two of them will be better together.

“Just give us more time,” Spoelstra told ClutchPoints before Thursday’s game against the Boston Celtics. “I think it’s going to look better and better. You know, we need all of our weapons and that continuity and ability to play to each other’s strengths, and that comes from actually spending time together. But I’m encouraged by what I’m seeing.”

He would repeat the same sentiments after defeating the Sun, saying how difficult it will be for opposing teams making matches.

“And we like that, because their side has to make decisions,” Spoelstra said. “Who do you put on who? It allowed Jaime to drive, and they realize who they put on Tyler or Norm; those are good things. You know, we want more than that, the synergy will be there if we can consistently play the way we know we’re supposed to play.”

While it is Recovering heat from a terrible journey, losing all three games in disappointing fashion, including a loss to the Indiana Pacers, who currently have the worst record in the NBA, taking advantage of their current home position is vital. Not only is that vital for the team as a whole, but also for the Hero-Powell relationship since they haven’t played much together, largely due to Hero missing 30 of the team’s first 36 games of the season.

Miami emphasizes that it will take time to release the full synergyan idea supported by Powell.

“We’re just going to keep working,” Powell said after Tuesday’s win. “You know, we’re both confident, not only in our abilities, but in each other. You know, we talk to each other during the game. We talk to each other on the bench, when he was out, he talked to me, when I was out, I talked to him, and the games when he was playing.”

“So we know what we can both bring to the table,” Powell continued. “But it’s all about getting comfortable and learning how we play each other in our spots and how we can play with each other with our skill set. But I think the more and more reps we get, the more and more time we get to practice and run the offense and bring this to our spots, it’s only going to get better.”

Either way, the duo is looking to get more reps and reach the heights they want, as after Thursday’s game against the Celtics, Miami (21-19, eighth in the East) closes out at home on Saturday against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
