Victor Wembanyama reacts to Anthony Edwards’ “standing up”.

After Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards admitted that Victor Vembanyama‘s a rapid rise among the greats of the game is the reason why he saves some of his best for San Antonio SpursClutchPoints informed the Silver and Black generational talent of Anthony’s comments.

Although not quite as open, Wemby was almost as honest.

“It’s an honor and it’s the best thing for the best players to give as much as possible because, first of all, it makes us better,” the first pick in the 2023 NBA draft told ClutchPoints.

“It makes me better.”

A three-time NBA All-Star still in his mid-20s, Edwards had a career night until 126-123 loss in Alamo City. His 55 points were a personal best, as was his 26 for the quarter in a thrilling fourth quarter. For his part, the Spurs’ leading scorer wore that mantle again against the T’Wolves to pair a couple of Edwards’ baskets in the fourth with some big shots of his own. Vembanjama responded with 12 off their 39 in the last stanza.

It’s back and forth Edwards spoke with ClutchPoints.

“I loved it. I loved it,” Edwards continued. “I wish we could move everything and just check. Me against him.”

The Spurs big man understood Edwards’ comments.

“It’s a show of respect, but also progress; a step forward because now the state of the table makes us a respectable team.”

Vembanjama and The Spurs are second in the Western Conferenceplace it’s been a few weeks. But the two losses that help make their record 29-13 have come against the Timberwolves, who sit in fourth place in the conference at 27-16 after their first loss to San Antonio this season.

Victor Wembanyama responded to several comments made by Anthony Edwards about him

Before revealing in real time that he took Edwards’ comments as a compliment, Wembanyama shared a side with ClutchPoints.

“I don’t know if this answers your question, but I definitely appreciate the person being, you know, honest like this,” the 7-foot-5 first admitted of his fellow T’Wolves superstar.

“I think (in this day and age) and in our business, I think the real power is having the strength to be honest about things. Like, he doesn’t back down from the questions.”

Wemby didn’t shy away from questions about Edwards’ thoughts either. The Timberwolves guard also admitted that he will try to dunk on Vembanyama at some point. Given their ages, 24 and 22 respectively, it’s a reality the younger Spurs star understands.

“Well, I know for sure. (He’s) just trying to nail everybody, so I’m no exception,” Wemby said of Edwards.

“I’ll be ready for the challenge. Of course, if he gets a good momentum going and if I’m just a little bit late, he might not be very forgiving, but that’s OK,” continued the 2023-2024 NBA Defensive Player of the Year runner-up. “I mean, I’m going to try over the years, I’m going to try to block him more than he nails me.”

It’s a battle, even beyond dunks and blocks the rest of the basketball world is ready to accept.
