Giannis relationship heading for ‘divorce’ according to Brian Windhorst

Is it over? Giannis Antetokounmpo‘s mandate with Milwaukee Bucks foregone conclusion? Many believe so, including ESPN Brian Windhorst. The possibility of trading Antetokounmpo at the deadlinegiven the type of draw Giannis would have if the Bucks were to make a deal before February 5th.

Antetokounmpo’s future with the Bucks remains in limbo, as many believe if he isn’t traded by this year’s deadline, he will be moved during the offseason, Windhorst said, according to ESPN’s NBA Countdown.

“It’s pretty much the couple that everybody in the league thinks is going to get divorced. They don’t know if they’re going to get divorced by Easter, if they’re going to get divorced by July 4th, but around the league, teams believe this is going to be a divorce,” Windhorst said. “And I know what Giannis said on the record, I know what Doc says.”

“The Bucks, as far as I know, aren’t taking Giannis’ phone calls yet; they’re just making outgoing calls. Having said that, I can only tell you that teams are prepared, thinking this could end up being a split at some point.”

Between a disappointing regular season, where the Bucks are below .500 (18-24), and out of the top 10 in the Eastern Conference standings, fans booed Antetokounmpo from his floor. The negativity from the Bucks fans reduced Antetokounmpo to what appeared to be tears before he hit a 3-pointer and sent the fans cheering back. Milwaukee lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves 139-106 at Fiserv Forum.

2025-26 was undoubtedly a new low for Antetokounmpo and the Bucks.

Bucks All-Star Giannis Antetokounmpo could stay after the trade deadlineconsidering what a package that includes Kyle Kuzma, Bobby Portis and a future first-round pick could get you. Desperate times call for desperate measures for the Bucks, who should do their best to keep Antetokounmpo, as Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints pointed out.

“That 2031 pick is going to be a long way from Giannis’ time with Milwaukee. He’s not going to be there then, and you don’t know what the Bucks organization is going to look like,” Siegel said on “Clutch Scoops.”

“It might not be the worst package if you throw in that 2031 pick.”

The NBA trade deadline is February 5.
