Christy — who was acquired as part of the shocking Anthony Davis-Luka Doncic trade last year — has become one of the best long-range shooters in the entire NBA. The guard is shooting 45.9 percent from deep, which is good for fifth in the league. Christie is also making the most three-point shots of his career at 5.5 per outing, but his efficiency is also a career high.
The 22-year-old has simply been locked in this year in an overall difficult campaign for the team. He was particularly impressive from the corner, connecting on over 48 percent of those attempts.
Christie recently said he’s open to participating in the NBA’s 3-point contest if he receives an invitation. At this point, it would be surprising if Christie didn’t get the call. He is more than deserving of a place in the competition.
Christie is also more than deserving of getting more attention. The Mavericks’ other storylines and overall poor results have led to Christie being consistently overlooked, but he’ll become impossible to ignore if he continues to find the bottom of the net from deep at such an elite level.
Maybe Max Christie’s red-hot long-range scoring can help the Mavs get back into contention. They are currently in 12th place in the Western Conference standings.
