Cooper Flagg additionally proves fame with Stephen Curry upset

DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night, winning 123-115 at home. For Golden State, Stephen Curry was his usual. The future Hall of Famer dropped 38 points on 14-27 shooting from the field and 8-15 shooting from behind the arc. Mavs rookie Cooper Flagg responded with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
Flagg certainly had help in the game. Naji Marshall scored 30 points, while Max Christie added 21 points. It was a team effort, but Flagg has proven he can rise to the occasion against one of the best players to ever step foot on an NBA court.
It was an upset, as the Warriors entered the game ranked eighth in the Western Conference standings, while the Mavs were ranked 12th. However, that didn’t stop the Mavericks from picking up the win.
Dallas played a competitive game against a talented Golden State team. It was close as the teams went back and forth. Curry is nearly 20 years older than Flagg, but both looked like stars Thursday night in Dallas.
“I thought he was good in New York, and then he was good here on a minutes limit,” head coach Jason Kidd he said for Flagg. “He’s trying to get his rhythm back (after previously missing time with an injury), but I thought he was good. … He started rebounding for us. When he does that, our break starts and we can get out and run.”
The The Mavs overcame numerous injury issues in the win. They turned to the “next man up” mentality, and suddenly the team won four straight contests.
The Mavericks’ next game is Saturday night against the Los Angeles Lakers, as Luka Doncic returns to Dallas to play with his former team nearly a year after a shocking trade.
