Luka Doncic surpassed 4,000 career assists during the Clippers game

Luka Dončić is under more scrutiny than ever now that he’s the top guy Los Angeles Lakersbut he still is posting huge numbers during what is a potential MVP campaign. 26 year old reached a significant milestone in the NBA against the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday night. He surpassed 4,000 career assists, according to Dan Woike of The Athletic, further cementing himself as one of the best playmakers of his era.
If Doncic can maintain this pace and stay on the court at a reasonable rate, he should have a prominent spot on the all-time list when it’s all said and done. But 77 should not look ahead. He and the Lakers are focused on fighting for Western Conference glory, especially in LeBron James’ final year in LA and the Association. The team failed to move that ultimate goal forward at the Intuit Dome, falling to the Clippers 112-104.
Doncic remains streaky from 3-point range — 3 of 13 in this game — but has been impressive overall. The five-time All-NBA First Team selection scored a career-high 32 points on 11-of-27 shooting to go along with 11 rebounds, eight assists and three steals. On the 20th anniversary of Kobe Bryant’s legendary performance of 81 pointsDoncic did his best to post his Lakers masterpiece.
The sensational quarterback should have time to appreciate his great achievement, but also understand that the team’s success is a priority. His elite playmaking serves the purpose of lifting an injury-plagued LA team (Austin Reeves is still missing). However, Purple and Gold still have a lot to figure out.
Los Angeles is trying to find consistency this season, something that is very difficult without one of its key players. Even so, the Lakers (26-17) are just half a game behind the fourth-place Houston Rockets. A healthy Luka Dončić should keep them hunting.
Leading in points per game (33.5) and third in assists per game (8.7), the Slovenian superstar will be tasked with getting LA back in the win column on Saturday. A meeting with his old team, the Dallas Mavericks (19-26), should give him even more motivation.
