Bill Simmons doubts Philly would trade VJ Edgecombe for Giannis
After that The Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Houston Rockets in a thrilling victory128-122, there’s no doubt there’s some debate in the basketball world about what the team would do before the Feb. 5 trade deadline. With 76ers rookie VJ Edgecombe is sending a message to the league that he is legitimate, Bill Simmons discusses its trade value compared to Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo.
On his show, Simmons would break out the mock trade that sent Antetokounmpo to Philly, but Edgecombe would head to Milwaukee, a deal he even said the team probably wouldn’t do. He would take credit for how the fan base would be angry about the backfield being broken up Tyrese McKay and Edgecombe who has been very successful this season.
“It’s Giannis and Gary Harris’ small contract for Paul George and the Clips for 2029 — the affiliate pick Milwaukee has for VJ Edgecomb,” Simmons said on his show of the same name. “I think they probably wouldn’t do it because they’d be afraid of how mad the fans would be because the fan base has already decided this is great, Maxi and VJ, sign us up, we’re good.”
Bill Simmons talks more about the trade value of the 76ers’ VJ Edgecombe

As it is The 76ers fan base has come to love Edgecombe this season, after being selected with the third overall pick in the last NBA draft out of Baylor, it would be hard for any fan to trade him, even for Antetokounmpo, according to Simmons. He would even go so far as to say that Edgecombe has better trade value and that the 20-year-old could be like Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade.
“I think they say no,” Simmons said. “So if I change the value again, forget all the reasons for it, I think VJ Edgecombe might have more trade value than Giannis. As crazy as it sounds. On a rookie deal, 40 games into the season, and like we can’t trade him, maybe Dwyane Wade will be screwed. This could be real again, D20. We’re not trading him.”
This season, Edgecombe averaged 15.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game while shooting 42.9 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from three-point range.
