New York adds depth to the roster with the Dodgers’ claim for an outfielder

The New York Yankees claimed the outfielder Michael Ciani was waived by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday, the team announced. In a corresponding move, New York designated right-handed pitcher Caleb Orth for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster. The move comes just a day after The Yankees claimed outfielder/infielder Marco Luciano off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles.
Siani, 26, was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 2018 MLB Draft. He will make his MLB debut in 2022. In 2023, the Reds designated him for assignment, and later St. Louis Cardinals took away. He was later claimed by the Atlanta Braves this offseason. In December, Atlanta designated him for assignment, which led to him being claimed by Los Angeles.
The Dodgers had to make room on their 40-man roster after the signing Kyle Tuckerhowever. as a result Siani was reassigned to the task.
Now, Siani is set to join the Yankees.
Between the Reds and Cardinals, Ciani played a total of 160 big league games. The outfielder posted a .221/.277/.270 slash line during that span.
In 2024, Siani hit the most games of his MLB career with a 124. He stole 20 bases, showing his ability to wreak havoc on the basepaths. Siani can also handle center field duties.
It remains to be seen if Ciani will win a big league role in 2026. If he ends up on the Yankees’ MLB roster, Michael Ciani would serve as either a fourth or fifth outfielder.
