Former Heat guard Marcos Tomas Perez was sentenced to three years in federal prison and to pay nearly $1.9 million in restitution for the theft hundreds of jerseys and other valuable equipment while working for the franchise.

Employed by the Heat from 2016 to 2021, then by the NBA from 2022 to 2025, this former police officer pleaded guilty in August 2025 to stealing more than 400 jerseys and items, which he then sold on specialized platforms.

Authorities say that over a three-year period, Perez sold more than 100 stolen items for approximately $1.9 million, shipping them across state lines, often at prices far below their true value. In particular, he sold the jersey worn by LeBron James during the NBA Finals for around $100,000. This same jersey was later resold for $3.7 million at a Sotheby’s auction.

Last April, police raided Perez’s home and found nearly 300 other stolen jerseys and collectibles.
