Trade that is ‘inevitable’
If there’s any team that should try to make a trade or two (maybe even three), it’s this one Sacramento Kings. They are currently a miserable 12-35 and are in the midst of a five-game losing streak. Simply put, this list doesn’t work, or even the return of Domantas Sabonis from injury didn’t help the league’s most confusing franchise one bit.
From the beginning of the season, it was obvious that he was The Kings’ roster is comprised of a mix of talent that don’t fit well side by side, and it looks like the front office will correct that by being active on the trade market. However, only one player is certain to be traded, if NBA insider Marc Stein’s latest report is anything to go by to be believed.
“The most likely player to be traded between now and the Feb. 5 deadline, Sacramento’s Keon Ellis, is a strong candidate. League sources say numerous teams are in the market for Ellis, and the Kings are believed to be seeking a first-round pick given widespread interest. One source close to the process essentially described Ellis’ trade as inevitable,” Stein wrote.
The Kings will trade a promising young defenseman in Keon Ellis

Ellis is loved by advanced stats, as he’s a deflection magnet, a steal maestro and a knockdown shooter when he’s open. But the Kings didn’t look too favorably on him, especially under the watch of head coach Doug Christie. Ellis, when healthy, barely gets minutes when the team’s veterans are ready.
The The Kings might want a first-round pick in return for Ellis, but he’s about to enter free agency in a few months, and it’s unlikely other teams will match the asking price considering he’s not even logging heavy minutes for a 12-35 team.
