Jrue Holiday breaks his silence in the comeback against the Celtics

TD Garden welcomed a familiar face on Monday Jrue Holiday, as the Portland Trail Blazers visited the Boston Celtics. It was Holiday’s first return to his former home since being traded to the Trail Blazers in the offseason.

The fans gave him a standing ovation when he entered the field to warm up. He may be wearing a different jersey now, but the veteran quarterback said he always will have good memories of his two years with the Celtics.

“It means a lot. To win together, to go through so much together, even how it ended, to do it together, it was amazing and I’ll never forget it,” Holiday, who helped Boston win the title in 2024, said in an interview with NBA on NBC.

The 35-year-old Holiday, however, added that even with the fans showing him love, he wants to stomp on the Celtics.

“We try to beat each other. When you get between the lines and the clock starts ticking, I know I want to win and they want to win,” said the two-time champion.

Boston traded Holliday to Portland for Anfernee Simmons and a second-round pick, as general manager Brad Stevens wanted to fix the roster after Jayson Tatum’s Achilles injury.

At first, Holliday was frustrated by the decision, as he wanted to stay in Beantown with his family. He eventually understood the situation and expressed his gratitude to the front office for giving him the notice.

As of this writing, the Celtics lead the Trail Blazers, 52-37, at halftime.

Holiday has eight points, two rebounds, three assists and one block.
