Lawrence Frank agrees to multi-year extension with LA
The LA Clippers have issued a statement of faith in President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank as both sides agreed to a contract extension on Tuesday, according to Sam Amick and Joe Vardon of The Athletic. Frank has been in his role as an executive with the Clippers since the 2016-17 season. He was originally hired as vice president of basketball operations and was later promoted following the team’s decision to strip then-head coach Doc Rivers of his title.
Lawrence Frank brought a lot of heat back in November when the decision was made to send Chris Paul home from the trip and cut ties with the future Hall of Famer. However, amid a shaky start to the season and roster moves that some might consider questionable, it always seemed like a yes The Clippers were on track to extend Franco’s contract.
Frank’s biggest moves during his tenure as Clippers executive were signing Kawhi Leonard as a free agent in the 2019 offseason, trading for Paul George the same summer and trading for James Harden at the start of the 2023-24 season. With Franco at the helm, the Clippers reached their first Western Conference Finals during the 2020-21 season.
Last offseason, Frank solved the Clippers’ forward problems by trading Norman Powell to the Miami Heat in a three-team deal that brought in John Collins. After a slow start to the season, Collins found a role and made a strong impact, allowing Leonard to move back to small forward.
The Clippers’ recent two-way deals have also paid off for Jordan Miller and Kobe Sanders, both of whom have helped them win this season.
Frank’s first executive role was with the Clippers after originally joining Rivers’ coaching staff in 2014. A longtime NBA assistant, Frank was the head coach of the then-New Jersey Nets from 2004-2009, and the head coach of the Detroit Pistons from 2011-2013.
