Paul George: Philadelphia 76ers forward banned 25 games for drug policy

Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George has been suspended 25 games for violating the NBA’s anti-drug program, the league announced.

The nine-time NBA All-Star, who averaged 20.5 points during his 16-year NBA career, said he mistakenly took the “wrong” drug.

George, 35, said in a statement to ESPN: “Over the past few years, I’ve talked about the importance of mental health, and while recently seeking treatment for my own problem, I made the mistake of taking the wrong medication.

“I take full responsibility for my actions and apologize to the Sixers organization, my teammates and Philadelphia fans for my poor decisions during this process.”

“I’m focused on using this time to make sure my mind and body are in the best shape to help the team when I return.”

The NBA announced that George will be suspended without pay for the duration of the ban. He can’t return until the 76ers play the Chicago Bulls on March 25 – with just 10 games left in the regular season.
