Jonathan Kuminga is closing in on a return before February 5
The Golden State Warriors look ready to lure back Jonathan Cumminga. But The Warriors still face selling him in the middle of his health update.
Warriors beat ClutchPoints reporter Kenzo Fukuda revealed Kuminga’s status from Saturday evening.
“Steve Kerr Jonathan Kuminga, who was sidelined with a bruised knee, said he was feeling better,” Fukuda said via social media website X, formerly Twitter.
Fukuda added that Kuminga: “I practiced today before practice and ‘got closer to being able to play’.”
However, his status remains up in the air for Tuesday’s showdown with the Philadelphia 76ers. That’s not the only thing “in the air” involving Kuminga, though.

Golden State is currently five nights away from deciding how to proceed with the 2025-26 roster. It involves choosing what moves to complete NBA trade deadline day — with Kuming himself holding the key here.
Giannis Antetokounmpo is potentially traded January 22. ClutchPoint’s Brett Siegel revealed how Kuminga and the Warriors could affect things here.
“One of the situations related to this holding pattern with all the Giannis rumors is the future of Jonathan Cumminga with the Golden State Warriors. This is another big domino that teams around the NBA are waiting to see fall, because it’s no secret that Kuminga wants a new home and the Warriors want to trade him,” Siegel wrote Wednesday.

The clock is surely ticking on what will happen to Kuming. When healthy, he’s a double-digit scoring threat who has a high two-point percentage, especially when isolated on the floor. He presents defensive deficiencies, but he is probably the most desirable member of the Dubs before the deadline.
