An additional ‘hurdle’ that New York will face in a potential Giannis trade

The The New York Knicks won they got back on track in the last week, winning five straight games after an ugly loss that sent them down the Eastern Conference standings. however, New York is well below where they thought they would be at this point in the season, leading some to wonder if a trade might be on the horizon.
The biggest name on the market right now is the Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpoand the Knicks have been linked to him since last summer.
Recently, NBA insider James L. Edwards III of the Athletics broke down the latest on where things stand between the two sides, including the potential issue that New York may encounter trying to do something.
“New York would have to trade two or three players in their starting lineup, most likely OG Anunobia, Mikal Bridges and/or Karl-Anthony Towns. The latter two, according to multiple league sources, are not believed to have the same value today as they did when the Knicks traded for them, so that in itself could be a hurdle,” Edwards III reported.
He also added that it’s unclear whether the Knicks and (James) Dolan are willing to give up their hopes of making the Finals this season in order to acquire Antetokounmpo sooner rather than later.
Indeed, both Bridges and Towns have been somewhat disappointing this season for New York, especially Towns, who has struggled to adjust to an unclear role in new head coach Mike Brown’s offensive scheme.
At this point, it’s unclear if that could be enough to prompt the Bucks to look at other options when it comes to potentially trading Antetokounmpo.
In any case, the NBA trade deadline is just a few days away, set for February 5th. Meanwhile, the Knicks will next take the floor Sunday night at home against the Los Angeles Lakers.
