Super League Basketball Trophy: London Lions beat Newcastle Eagles 74-68
The London Lions withstood a ferocious late charge to see off defending champions Newcastle Eagles 74-68 to lift the Super League Basketball trophy.
The Lions, who won the championship in each of the previous three seasons, won the Trophy for only the second time, having lifted it in 2021.
After dominating the first two quarters to take a 45-28 halftime lead, the SLB championship-topping Lions had to withstand a second-half comeback by the Eagles that cut the deficit to five points with 41 seconds left.
With the London Lions keeping their opponents at arm’s length, they were able to claw their way back to a six-point lead at the buzzer.
The Eagles’ Terrell Burden Jr. was the leading scorer, albeit in the loss, with 20 points, six rebounds and six assists. Chaundee Brown Jr. led the winning side with 15 points.
