Could the Warriors trade Draymond Green to get Giannis and then re-sign him?

The The Golden State Warriors were in trade rumors over the past few weeks as the team desperately tries to assemble a contending team around Stephen Curry. That effort has been greatly hampered by the recent injury to star Jimmy Butler, but fans remain hopeful that the team will find a way to bring in the disgruntled Milwaukee Bucks. star Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Most recently, NBA insider Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints spawned the scenario in which the Warriors would part ways with a franchise legend Draymond Green to bring in Antetokounmpo – but only for the short term.’

“A rival executive who has previously dealt with the Warriors in trade talks spoke with ClutchPoints on Sunday and laid out an interesting scenario where Green himself could be involved in such a maneuver, where he could be traded and return next season along with Curry, Butler and Antetokounmpo, as he holds a $27.6 million player option,” Siegel reported.

“I continue to believe that there are teams that would essentially help the Warriors get Giannis if it meant getting Green for the next three or four months to win a title,” the executive said.

The prospect of Green willingly accepting a trade to another team for the remainder of this season, knowing he plans to return to the Bay Area in the summer of 2026, would certainly be a sight to behold. It’s unclear how receptive the team trading for him would be to this idea, if they knew Green’s stay there would essentially be a rental.

The Warriors are clearly desperate to put together a legitimate title contender, with Curry’s 38th birthday coming up next month and the rest of their supporting cast not getting more value on the market.

In any case, the deadline is set for Thursday afternoon.
