Why the Bulls are ‘struggling’ to find an attractive Kobe White trade

The The Chicago Bulls were up and down of late, currently on track for a fourth consecutive year. The team has been involved in several trade rumors as the deadline approaches later this week, and one name kept coming up veteran guard Kobe White.

Joel Lorenzi of The Athletic recently reported on this some turbulence which Bulls meet on the white trade front.

“While so few transactions have made it difficult to gauge the current rate for Bulls guard Kobe White, one source indicated that Chicago has struggled in early attempts to land a first-round pick in a deal that could include the seven-year guard. Any hesitation stems from his expiring contract, the potential numbers on his next contract and his nagging calf this season,” Loren reported.

Indeed, White will be a free agent this coming offseason, and while expiring contracts have some value in today’s NBA, teams likely wouldn’t want to part with significant assets to land a player like White, who could theoretically be out the door in a few months.

As Lorenzi mentioned, White has also dealt with some injury issues this season that kept him out for the first part of the campaign and have resurfaced at times since the calendar flipped to 2026.

While the former North Carolina star is still a talented shooter who can heat up in a hurry and make plays for his teammates, his relatively small size at guard, combined with a lack of tenacity on the defensive side of the ball, don’t exactly make him the archetype that teams want to stock in the current NBA era.

Either way, the Bulls will next hit the floor Tuesday night on the road against the Milwaukee Bucks.
