Jason Kidd talks about the outburst after the Rockets game

Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd he wasn’t feeling the happiest over the weekend. He became angry when asked about the much-criticized decision to give rookie Cooper Flagg the quarterback duties and berated reporters before cutting his media session short. Before he said, he condemned the officials as they swallowed their whistles on Flegg’s drive to the basket in the closing seconds of Saturday’s 111-107 loss to the Houston Rockets. Last view earned Kidd a $35,000 fine. He addressed his inflammatory comments on Tuesday.

Although, the Hall of Famer doesn’t sound too sad. “I take full responsibility for my actions, my punishment, but I said what I had to say,” Kidd said, as ClutchPoints Mavs beat writer Joey Mistretta. “We have to move forward and get ready for Celtic.”

He is right. The Mavericks don’t have time to dwell on the past. They have dropped four straight games and are now three and a half games out of last place in the NBA Play-In Tournament. Kyrie Irving was already on the sidelines in the new season and now Anthony Davis is nursing a hand injuryforcing 19-year-old Flagg to take on the role of “top guy” earlier than fans expected. Dallas’ only chance to survive the always-terrible Western Conference is to stay focused.

Although fans don’t agree with all of his decisions, Jason Kidd said the team plays hard on a regular basis. The Mavs (19-30) have lost their last two games by a total of six points and are consistently in a tight battle. The head coach is to blame for the poor identity this team is showing in this rough campaign. But he is also expected to remain composed when speaking to the media.

It will be interesting to see how the Mavericks react after the tough loss to the Rockets and Kidd’s subsequent remarks. Maybe that extra fire will fuel them to a big performance against the Boston Celtics (31-18) on Tuesday night.
