NBC Sports boss teases future Michael Jordan collaboration
While some may have been disappointed with NBA legend Michael Jordan’s first season as a special contributor for NBC Sports coverageit doesn’t sound like that will be it.
During an interview with Front Office Sports, NBC Sports President Rick Cordella discussed their cooperation with Jordan, praising the interview conducted with him.
“With him joining our team as a special contributor, we had a great interview with him, and we hope to have more in the future,” Cordella said.
He then teased that they were having “conversations” about his future. “We’ve had conversations with him – a lot of ongoing discussions,” he revealed. “We’ll see what happens.”
Michael Jordan’s first year as a special contributor to NBC Sports NBA coverage

Before the 2025-2026 season, it was announced that Jordan had joined NBC Sports as a special contributor to their NBA coverage. However, some were disappointed with the result.
Jordan recorded an interview with Mike Tirek. Granted, interviews with Jordan are rare, but the interview was pieced together and aired in parts throughout the season. He wasn’t in the studio or in the booth calling games, as some expected.
Even fellow NBA legend Charles Barkley was upset by this. It particularly bothered him that the interview was recorded during the summer, so it is not current.
“It’s a bad look to do one interview and string it together throughout the season,” Barkley criticized. “They couldn’t fly out there once a month to sit down with Michael for an hour? To do an interview in August, and put it together and still record the same interview in January, February, that’s a bad look.”
“I thought it was great that we brought Michael Jordan back to the NBA. But now you look, and I’m like, ‘You’ve been wearing the same clothes since August,'” he continued.
Fans will have to wait and see if NBC Sports and Jordan reach an agreement on a future collaboration. It would be easy to get him back if he is willing to come back. Maybe they’ll shake it up next time.
