The Heat willing to trade Ja Morant for Giannis Antetokounmpo seems unlikely

The Miami Heat was in the rumor mill lately, with some fans wondering if the team might be working on a trade to bring in disgruntled Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. Now that the Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors appear to have taken the lead in those negotiations, it appears the Heat will now they are moving to the second option: the point guard of the Memphis Grizzlies I Morant.
“…The Heat are certainly at the forefront of those talks. For weeks, the Heat have been trying to shop low on Morant, similar to what the Washington Wizards did with their Trae Young trade to the Atlanta Hawks,” ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel reported.
Wizards indeed were able to poach Trae Young from the Atlanta Hawks for the low price of CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert, and it appears the Grizzlies will have to settle for a similar offer for Morant, whose value is very low at this point due to his inflated contract and the fact that his shooting percentages have dropped this year while his injury continues to fester.
“…The Grizzlies really want compensation for Morant in the draft and are generally expected to make the first deal that includes a first-round pick, sources said. Morant wants Miami, and only Miami,” Siegel added.
The Heat would be in the NBA play-in tournament for the fourth year in a row if the season ended today, and at this point it is unclear whether Morant alone would be enough to earn Miami the status of a true contender in the Eastern Conference.
However, for fans who have watched Pat Riley sit around doing nothing for several years running, any move would likely be refreshing at this point.
Either way, the NBA trade deadline is set for Thursday afternoon.
