The Cleveland Cavaliers recently shook things up by trading Darius Garland to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for a future Hall of Famer James Harden. Now, the Cavs are making further moves as the NBA trade deadline approaches.

“The Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to a trade.” Lonzo Ball and two picks in the second round Utah Jazzsources told ESPN. Ball’s agent, Rich Paul, and the Jazz are expected to discuss his future soon,” ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania reported on X, formerly Twitter.

Charania also clarified what will be in store for Ball with Utah.

“The Jazz are expected to waive Lonzo Ball, allowing him to become a free agent, sources tell ESPN,” he reported.

Ball was expected to be a candidate for the Cavs this year after his shooting numbers dropped significantly since he was traded to Cleveland with the Chicago Bulls.

He will now be free to sign with another team after being waived by the Jazz.

Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints later confirmed this this was part of it bigger deal with Atlanta Hawks who sent Jock Landale to Atlanta.

“…this trade of Lonzo Ball to Utah is a 3-team deal that also included Jock Landale going to the Hawks. The Cavs are sending 2028 and 2032 second-round picks to Utah, who will give up Ball,” Siegel reported.

Meanwhile, the Cavs recently bolstered their backcourt depth by acquiring both Dennis Schroeder and Keon Ellis from the Sacramento Kings in exchange for De’Andre Hunter, meaning Ball won’t leave them a void in terms of backup minutes.

It remains to be seen if the Cavs will try to make any more moves before the deadline, but as it is, the team will already look a lot different the next time they take the court.

The NBA trade deadline is set for Thursday afternoon at 3:00 PM ET.
