JR Smith responds to Donovan Mitchell’s bold statement from Jaylon Tyson
Cleveland Cavaliers forward Jaylon Tyson has made waves in recent days after saying that Cleveland Donovan Mitchell‘s city now — implying that the city no longer belongs to the greatest player in franchise history, LeBron James. Tyson, of course, was simply very ecstatic after the Cavs’ victory over James’ Los Angeles Lakers at home, and it sparked plenty of reaction from fans, former players and pundits alike.
At the end of the day, Tyson apologized to anyone he may have offended with his remark. Regardless, it doesn’t seem like his comments were too much of a problem anyway. At least for the former Cavs guard JR Smithwho played alongside James on Cleveland’s 2016 title-winning team, Tyson’s announcement he didn’t even guarantee it any further discussion among his contemporaries.
“No (it didn’t make it to the group chat.) Nobody said anything about it. Some things, just let it go. God bless his soul,” Smith said in an appearance on FanDuel TV’s Run It Back.
JR Smith says Jaylon Tyson’s ‘Cleveland is Donovan Mitchell’s town’ quote didn’t make it to 2016 Cavs group chat 🤣

Those Cavs are world champions and they know no one comes close to James’ legacy with the franchise. And there wasn’t an iota of malice in what Tyson said, so this wasn’t much of a story to begin with anyway.
Donovan Mitchell wants to lead the Cavs to the promised land

The The Cavs’ decision to trade Darius Garland for James Harden signals one thing and one thing only: they want to win a title in the next year or so given that Harden is 36 years old.
It will all come down to Mitchell being able to exorcise his team’s playoff demons and get them over the hump. He’s 29 years old and in the middle of his prime, and if he can lead the Cavs to another title, then Cleveland could certainly be his city.
