Dirk Nowitzki reveals what he admires about Cooper Flagg

Nowitzki began his career with similar expectations to Flagg, which he admitted weighed on him early on. Knowing the situation, Nowitzki told the rookie that his demeanor at this point has she impressed him the most this year.

“I admire what you’re doing, at a young age, coming in with a lot of pressure (as) the first pick,” Nowitzki said during the ‘NBA on Prime’ segment.

Flagg has been on social media since the start of his high school career, setting unusually high expectations for his rebound. His social media hype made him the No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2025 and the runaway favorite to go No. 1 overall in the NBA Draft throughout his college career.

Flagg was immediately thrust into uncharted territory when head coach Jason Kidd decided to bring him in as the opening night point guard. The 19-year-old returned with a double-double on his debut and has only gotten better with each performance.

Flagg averaged 20.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists in the first 47 games of his professional career. As of Saturday, he is coming off four straight 30-point games, including a career-high 49-point bomb against the Charlotte Hornets on Jan. 29.

As much as he was the favorite to become the No. 1 pick in June, Flagg is clear favorite to win the Rookie of the Year title in 2026 award.
