“I’m in very good hands”
This is one of the surprises of this “trade deadline”. Traded by the Hawkswho picked up Jonathan Cumminga and Buddy Hield, Kristaps Porzingis he was introduced on the sidelines of a losing match to his new teammates on the Lakers floor.
An opportunity to assess the state of health, while the Latvian interior has not played for a month due to tendinitis of the Achilles tendon. Another question mark concerns “STOP” syndrome which prevented him from giving his full potential for a year and playing match after match. The person in question was pretty confident, letting it slip in passing that his return wasn’t planned before the All-Star break.
“I think it’s a great opportunity to turn over a new leaf”he said. “From what I’ve seen and the conversations I’ve had so far with the medical staff and the people that work here, I have to say I’m very surprised and very optimistic. I’m in very good hands, if not the best, and I think that will reinforce what I already have in mind. I’m really looking forward to what could be a surprisingly good recovery after the All-Star Break.”
A risk worth taking for Mike Dunleavy Jr.
It’s a risky bet for Golden State, but Mike Dunleavy Jr. feels the game is worth it, especially after Jimmy Butler retires for the rest of the season. On paper, the arrival of Kristaps Porzingis is enough to take these Warriors a step further. What will it actually be?
“We’ve looked into the situation pretty thoroughly. We trust our medical staff. There are no guarantees, no certainty, but given where he is now, given where he’s been, we’re optimistic.”, the general secretary of the Warriors assured. “From our point of view, we recognize the health risk, but it’s a risk we’re willing to take (…). We really like the player, and we think he can help us on the court, thanks to his ability to protect the rim, to score, to draw fouls, to take care of the ball… all things we want to improve, especially after losing Jimmy.”
Ready to take on Boston…with Stephen Curry?
Kristaps Porzingis will be able to count on his former Boston teammate Al Horford to help. Stephen Curry’s talent should also help, and the prospect of playing with the phenom will also motivate him to get back on the court as soon as possible.
The Warriors leader, who is currently nursing a knee, is also expected to return after the break.
“I’m already a big fan of Steph’s”slipped KP. “Just looking at him from the outside, he’s amazing. So, to play with a player like him, it’s going to be really great. I think it elevates everybody when you have someone like him on your team. He’s a really exceptional player.”
Let’s see if both will be operational for the Warriors’ first game after the All-Star Game. It will be on February 19, against… Boston.
