Kristaps Porzingis is thrilled to play with ‘unreal’ Stephen Curry

Recently, the The Golden State Warriors shook things up by trading Jonathan Cumminga and Buddy Hield to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for big man Kristaps Porzingis. The move officially ended the bizarre Kuminga saga in Golden State and gave the Warriors a great chance to check a lot of boxes for the team when healthy.
Recently, Porzingis has become 100% real odds of playing with future Hall of Famers Stephen Curry in Golden State.
“Oh, I’ve been a big fan of Steph for a long time … I just watch him … He’s unreal. To play with somebody like that would be really cool,” Porzingis said, per Joseph Dykus of the Mercury News on X, formerly Twitter.
In theory, Porzingis appears to fill many of Golden State’s needs. The Latvian center can effectively defend the rim, stretch the floor near the halfway line, and also create his own offense through post-ups.
However, health has always been a major concern for the Unicorn, and that continued this year, with Porzingis missing most of Atlanta’s December games. He’s currently out of the lineup for Golden State with an Achilles injury, though the team seems to think he’ll be back sooner rather than later.
Meanwhile, the trade also got the Warriors out of the Jonathan Cummings situation, as head coach Steve Kerr pulled the former lottery pick from his rotation for much of this season, despite the Warriors not having an abundance of two-way wings on their roster.
It remains to be seen if the Warriors’ team chemistry will improve without the awkward Cummings-Kerr situation hanging over the franchise.
Either way, the Warriors will next hit the floor Monday night at home against the Memphis Grizzlies.
